The Sans Souci Childcare Centre is designed as a warm, welcoming environment that supports early learning through light, openness and connection to the outdoors. The building is organised across two levels, with clear circulation and generous play areas that flow easily between indoor and outdoor spaces. Softened forms, natural materials and landscaped edges create a calm, child-focused setting while maintaining a strong street presence.
A key consideration of the design was its sensitive urban planning response to the neighbouring heritage church and the established residential character of the precinct. The architecture adopts a respectful scale and composed presence, using carefully crafted masonry walls and textured materials that draw from the solidity and timelessness of traditional local buildings. These elements help the centre sit comfortably within its context, creating a mindful balance between contemporary childcare needs, surrounding homes, and the heritage significance of its neighbour. The result is a place that balances functionality with playfulness—providing a safe, engaging environment where children can learn, explore and grow, while contributing positively to the character and story of the local community.
